The Changing Landscape and Fulfilling the Dream...

The face of publishing has changed drastically in the last several years. The introduction of the Internet
as a viable means of commerce has helped shape the market in new and exciting ways, opening the doors
to the publishing world that had until recently, been at the mercy of the big publishing houses.

So, how exactly has the Internet (and the digital age in general) changed publishing for the better?
Simple. It's ushered in a new technology known as "print on demand." With POD technology, publishers
have an opportunity to compete with the larger companies. By creating books with great covers,
professional layout design, and fantastic, edge of your seat stories, small publishers are able to reach out
to a world wide market through the use of Internet retail sites such as Amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com,
and others. Since books are only printed when they are purchased (by either the consumer or a retail
store), there is very little overhead...allowing the smaller publisher to give some serious competition to the
bigger ones.

Seven Realms Publishing utilizes this same technology. We approach the publishing process exactly the
same as all the others in terms of quality (i.e. Acquisition, editing, layout, design, etc). The only major
difference is that the overhead, being lower, enables us to open those coveted doors to new, fantastic
authors who might never have had a chance before.

So, How Does It Work?

POD? What does that mean you're a vanity press? Not at all. Vanity publishers charge upfront fees to
potential authors. They then, on behalf of the writer, produce a book and distribute it to a limited number
of outlets. The success of the book hinges completely on the author. After all, the vanity press has
already made their money...why bother devoting resources to sell the author's book?

Seven Realms is a true, small and independent publisher. The author doesn't pay a dime to see his/her
work in print (except for whatever copies they choose to purchase for their own needs or marketing). And
they are paid traditionally with royalty checks paid on a quarterly basis. Depending on previous
successes, the author can even get paid an advance for subsequent books.

The only difference between our company and one of the larger publishers is that our inventory is
completely digital. Our printer/distributor produces each copy of the book the moment it is purchased from
one of the numerous retail outlets. There is no difference between our books and those of the major
houses. As a matter of fact, our books are printed by the same printers used by all the major publishers.
